TI completes National Semiconductor acquisition

More than 5000 National employees to join TI's analogue business

Texas Instruments (TI) has completed the acquisition of National Semiconductor to further strengthen its position in the semiconductor industry and improve growth.

TI will be joined by more than 5,000 National employees, and the two companies will begin the work to integrate National as a unit of TI's analogue business.

The analogue business will have a combined portfolio of nearly 45,000 analogue products, strong customer design tools, and a sales force that is 10 times larger than National's previous footprint.

TI chairman, president and chief executive officer Rich Templeton said together, they're focused on accelerating semiconductor innovation to improve performance and power efficiency for their customers' electronic systems.

"The closing of this transaction allows TI to expand its market presence with more leading-edge analogue products, greater manufacturing capacity, and the largest sales and applications team in the industry," Templeton said.

With the addition of National Semiconductor, TI's analogue semiconductor business now represents more than 50% of the company's revenue.

National's manufacturing sites, located in Maine, Scotland and Malaysia, as well as business headquarters in Santa Clara and sales/design support around the world will now be operated by TI.
