US based semiconductor firm Texas Instruments (TI) has said that it will not invest in mobile devices that include smartphones and tablets due to increased competition in the market.
The company will concentrate on manufacturing embedded chips for industrial clients such as car manufacturers instead.
TI senior vice president for embedded processing Greg Delagi said "We believe that opportunity is less attractive as we go forward."
In May this year, TI combined its embedded wireless businesses into one division.
TI's chips are used in products that include Amazon.com's Kindle Fire tablet and the firm is responsible for the OMAP5 dual core Cortex-A15 chip which is due to launch in 2013 for Android phones.
Recently in the wireless market, TI faced tough competition from Qualcomm and Apple as well as Samsung Electronics who have been developing their own chips instead of purchasung them from a supplier like TI.
TI operates in four segments namely analog, embedded processing, wireless and other.
The company has design, manufacturing and sales operations in more than 30 countries around the world.
