Qualcomm joined hands with Microsoft to demonstrate a Windows 8 tablet running on the company's new Snapdragon S4 processor with LTE support at the CES 2012.
This is seen as a move by Qualcomm to enter the PC market and take on Intel.
It is also said to be in talks with PC makers for making thin and light computers based on its Snapdragon chip, which are based on the ARM architecture.
S4 will provide a new usage model for PCs, which for years have been dominated by x86, said Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs during his keynote address at the CES.
Laptops with S4 will reportedly include many features that were native to the smartphones, such as quick booting and instant cloud access provision to keep applications and feeds up to date.
Jacobs said, "Windows 8 is a great match for Snapdragon because we build our processors from the ground up. Windows 8 ARM support is a game changer."
