Broadcom is all set to launch high-end application processor chips for the lucrative smartphones market that will drive future gadgets.
In a statement, co-founder and CTO Henry Samueli said that by the end of the year, newer chips will be rolled out for more complex smartphones.
Broadcom was known traditionally for supplying chips targeted at feature phones and lower-priced smartphones.
The company is now shifting its focus to high-end smartphones and analysts aver that the move is aimed at being a part of top smartphone designs.
Broadcom is already working with smartphone makers who will be using these chips in their phones. Samueli said getting the designed chips to get tested and certified takes time.
The Broadcom CTO did not name any companies with whom they have been partnering.
Broadcom, which also makes Bluetooth and other wireless chips, has been investing heavily in expanding its portfolio of processors of smarpthones which need high processing power.
